Loneliness - Visual Language Exploration

Performance Optimization

Accessibility Design

To improve user experience in PDF workflows, I delivered two impactful feature enhancements: enabling free text input on static PDFs and optimizing the preload behavior for large documents. These updates addressed key accessibility concerns, streamlined user interactions, and improved perceived performance. Both designs passed design review and have been successfully launched.
Process
Step1
I choose a book as a material to explore my visual language. At the first stage, I reshaped the book and observe the book from far to near, both dynamic and static. I found it’s interesting that the book can be seen as a solid whole as well as separate individuals.
Step2
I cut the edge of the book and try to explore the texture of pages other than the texture of the paper. I cut them at equal intervals. I rolled these sequences in different directions or rub them to make them show different textures. At the same time, I rolled the book into different shapes to observe the edges from different angles.
Step3
I fold and rub book pages, then use a brush to paint the wrinkles—different patterns revels. Then, I overlap these pages in various ways to explore other appearances. Also, I cut a part of the book into pieces and try to find patterns in the scatters. I also let the ink splash on the scatter book pages to find patterns.

Step5
Abstract the Visual Language
The book was bought in a period when I was restrained by conventions such as exams, life plans, social expectations, identity bias. The feeling of compression led to a self-enclosed and strong desire to look for a breakthrough. That was an unpleasant memory and I need courage to confront it. When I did the experiment in this artwork, I tried to depict all of the feelings. I hope I can seek an outlet, connect to it and embrace it in the end.
